Climate change is already impacting the Winter Olympics.
Without enough snowfall, the organisers of the Olympics will have to rely more heavily on artificial snowfall… which comes with its own costs (water and energy).
A report from World Economic Forum has stated if things continue as they are, by 2040 there will only be roughly 10 countries that will be able to host the Olympics reliably.
To maintain fairness and safety for athletes and spectators, the organisers are considering potential solutions such as moving up the dates, extending or splitting the scheduling of events, or moving the events to larger areas with more climate-resilient conditions.
