Reported losses from hacked email and social media accounts in Britain have jumped to £6.3 million over the past financial year.
Part of the increase is down to the new Report Fraud platform making it easier for victims to report incidents, but the figures still make for uncomfortable reading, particularly for SMEs, which account for 62% of corporate cases.
Reviewing who has admin access, tightening security and making sure the basics are covered can go a long way towards keeping an account compromise from becoming a much bigger problem.
