Employment law in the UK is evolving quickly, and January 2026 marks an important step in changes that will shape workplaces this year. A recent CIPD insight highlights the first commencement regulations under the Employment Rights Act 2025, with trade-union reforms starting from 18 February and further rights rolling out in April.
That includes changes to paternity and unpaid parental leave, a new day-one right to bereaved partner paternity leave, and reforms to Statutory Sick Pay that employers need to get ready for now, not later.
For leadership, HR and talent teams, these aren’t abstract legal shifts, they’re changes that will require updated policies, clear communication and proactive planning across organisations of all sizes.
